Radiology is an essential subject for USMLE Step 1 & Step 2 CK, focusing on CXR interpretation, CT vs. MRI indications, and key radiologic signs.

1. Chest X-Ray (CXR) Interpretation

🔹 ABCDE Approach:

✅ Airway: Tracheal deviation (Pneumothorax, Atelectasis)

✅ Bones: Rib fractures, clavicle fractures

✅ Cardiac Silhouette: Cardiomegaly (>50% width) → CHF

✅ Diaphragm: Flattened in COPD, free air = perforation

✅ Effusions: Blunting of costophrenic angles (Pleural Effusion)

2. CT vs. MRI: When to Use?

✅ CT Scan: Head trauma, Stroke (first-line for bleeding), Pulmonary Embolism (CT-Angiogram)

✅ MRI: Brain tumors, Multiple Sclerosis (T2 hyperintensities), Spinal cord compression

3. High-Yield Radiologic Signs

📌 Thumbprint Sign: Epiglottitis

📌 Steeple Sign: Croup

📌 Ground-glass Opacity: ARDS, COVID-19 pneumonia

📌 Kerley B Lines: Pulmonary Edema

📌 USMLE Tip: Learn which imaging modality is best for specific conditions!
